"The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible."
--Arthur C. Clarke
As I was riding the bike today and sweating and hurting and thinking "Aghhhh, when am I going to be done?" suddenly I remembered something I had heard about Chrissie Wellington, the most famous and accomplished triathlete there is, and it made me smile.
When she is in the middle of her races and she's passing her competitors and working her tail off--she is smiling. You know she has to be hurting. You can't push as hard as she does and not hurt. Her fellow triathlete's always comment on this like, "Can you believe it? It's mile 110 on the bike and she's still smiling!" And then it hit me.
It's because she's having fun. And that's when I smiled. I was having fun but I just wasn't recognizing it because there was pain there too. I let the pain drown out the fun.
So many times we get caught up in the pain and the work and all that we have to do that we forget to have fun. And the thing is, we can have fun wherever we're at.
It's the fun that makes life worth it--that keeps us happy.
Have fun with your workout today and smile, it helps. :)
